There has to be a method to the madness, says Irfan Pathan on India’s batting approach

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that there has to be a method to the madness, while talking about India’s batting approach against Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue are set to lock horns with Sri Lanka for the second match of the three-game T20I series at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Speaking on Star Sports, Pathan said there has to be a method to the madness and India should avoid losing wickets in clusters.

“There has to be a method to the madness. The method is that you don’t lose your wickets in clusters. When you lose wickets in clusters, there are problems,” said Pathan.

He said Indian batters should be able to pace their innings and form a partnership if they lose two or three wickets in quick succession.

“Yes, you need to go with the aggressive approach but when you feel that you have lost two or three wickets, you need a partnership there,” Pathan added.

He touched upon the shot selection by the Indian batters, saying if they continue playing bad shots, we will never see big scores put up on the board.

“So there is a scope for improvement there. If you lose wickets continuously with wrong shots, I feel you will not get to see the big score we talk about. So keeping that in mind, it is extremely important for the shot selection to be improved,” said Pathan.

India will look to complete another T20I series win at home, first under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, as they take on Sri Lanka in the second of a 3-match T20I series on Thursday. Having already taken a 1-0 lead after the thrilling win in Mumbai, the action shifts to the MCA Stadium in Pune.
