Veteran Australian cricketer Daniel Christian announced that he would retire from professional cricket after end of the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). The 38-year-old is currently plying his trade for the Moises Henriques-led Sydney Sixers, who are placed second in the points table.

Christian made the announcement prior to the Sixers’ match against Chris Green’s Sydney Thunder on Saturday, January 21 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

“Yesterday (Friday) at training I told by Sydney Sixers teammates that I’ll be retiring from playing at the end of the BBL season,” Christian was quoted as saying.

“Sydney Smash tonight, followed by our last round game against the Hurricanes, and then the finals,” he stated.

Prior to Saturday’s match, Christian played 405 matches in which he scored 5809 runs at an average of 22.87 and a strike-rate of 138.17 with two hundreds and 17 half-centuries. He also has 280 wickets to his name in his illustrious career in T20s.

Christian also played 20 ODIs and 23 T20Is for Australia where he notched 391 runs and picked up 33 wickets. In the BBL, he has been a stalwart for the Sixers for quite some seasons.
