India batter Suryakumar Yadav was named as the ICC men’s player of the year for 2022. The best batter in the T20I format has had a tremendous season in the past year but still has not been able to settle a place in the ODI team. Yadav has a stark difference between his T20I and ODI numbers and going into the ODI World Cup has not shown that he can be easily slotted into the middle order.
Former selector Saba Karim came to the batter’s defence and said that he needed more time to adjust to the format of the game.
“This is not the first time. Previously, when he got the opportunity to play in ODIs, he didn’t score as per expectations. I still think he is an invaluable player. Some players need some time to adjust. He should discuss this with Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid to gain more clarity,” Saba Karim said to India News.
Yadav has not scored a century in the ODI format, a stark contrast to his fortunes in the T20I format, where he has three to his name. The batter is expected to get game time in the run up to the World Cup, but unless he does something drastic, it is unlikely that he will be the first choice middle order batter ahead of Shreyas Iyer in the Indian team.
