Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe will be meeting National Sports Council and National Sports Selection Committee (NSSC) Tomorrow to discuss on various topics, Including the removal of puppet Cricket Selection Chairman Pramodaya Wickramasinghe, Cricket Age exclusively learns.
The development comes after Island’s National Sports Selection Committee (NSSC), on February 24th, wrote to Sports Ministry informing that it has rejected the names proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for National Cricket Selectors. In a letter to the ministry, the NSSC pointed out that there are more suitable candidates for the posts. The SLC had nominated the name of current cricket selectors headed by Pramodya Wickramasinghe. Accordingly, the NSSC requested the Sports Ministry’s approval to call for fresh nominations to select suitable candidates.
During the meeting, 6-members high-level committee, appointed by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe itself, report will also be discussed. In it’s 63 pages hard hitting report, the committee has accused SLC of lavish spending on officials during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup Campaign. The report didn’t spare former Sri Lanka captain and current consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene also, stating that he promoted his personal ventures, when his team was gearing for the World Cup!
Cricket Age understands that the AG’s department has given it’s verdict on Inquiry Committee’s report, which will surely heat up Sri Lanka’s cricket politics in upcoming days, as the AG’s has advised Ministry to conduct a complete audit on SLC’s expenditure during World Cup Campaign!
Removal of Pramodaya will also be among main agendas of the meeting. As a chief selector, the big mouthing Pramodaya was nothing but a disaster! More worryingly, he turned out mere a puppet, rubber stamp of one former Sri Lanka captain, who was accused of selecting squads on behalf of him. So much so that, sources at SLC says that instead of Pramodaya, that former Sri Lanka captain used to come at Maitland Place to select the team!
