Opposition challenges Galle CC AGM legality in court!

Written by N Krishnamurthy

In a bizarre move, months after Galle Cricket Club’s (GCC) election election, the opposition camp has challenged it’s legality in Court, Cricket Age reliably learns.

According to sources, the opposition camp has filed a case at Galle District Court, alleging that the election, which was held in October last year, was not conducted as per the constitution of the club or directions given by the court!

In the election (October 31st) Charles Silva had won with thumping majority against Kumar Samarasinghe, securing 278 votes out of possible 480. Thus, it’s widely rumoured that Samarasinghe himself is backing the opposition camp in the court!

In June last year, Galle District Court had suspended Samarasinghe’s administration with Immediate effect for illegally postponing the election and had appointed business tycoon Dilith Jayaweera to take over.
