The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) election nominees have been summoned by the Appeal Advisory Committee to investigate the objections against their nominations, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
The objections have been raised by one of the prominent former SLC administrator of the opposition camp! The nominees who have been summoned are – SLC Vice President International Cricket Jayantha Dharmadasa, Vice President Domestic Cricket Ravin Wickramaratne, Treasurer Lasantha Wickramasinghe and others.
“All of them have been summoned by Appeal Advisory Committee for the inquiry to be held to hear complaints loged against their nominations” a well placed source told Cricket Age.
However, the twist in the story is that the objections are regarding Cricket Board’s 2021 election, not the upcoming one! That time, Shammi Silva led administration was elected uncontested following the withdrawal of former Board Vice President K. Mathivanan led camp.
Now, after almost two years, the opposition has approached Appeal Advisory Committee again for the Inquiry, saying their objections were not reviewed properly at that time.
“We have requested Appeal Advisory Committee to properly Investigate our objections” one of the opposition member told Cricket Age.
The Cricket Board, however, has unanimously rejected these objections, calling it baseless, propaganda driven and an attempt to destabilize the most cherished game in the Island!
“It’s a joke that after two years, we have been summoned for this. As per Cricket Board Constitution, the objections should have been taken up within 30 days. Also, then Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa had also rejected these objections back then” a top SLC official told Cricket Age.
Moreover, it was collectively decided by the SLC Executive Committee (ExCo) to take stern action against those, who are falsely trying to frame the Maitland Place office bearers!
“In the last ExCo, it was decided to drag those to the court, who are continuously trying to defame us” top SLC official added, when Inquired about Appeal Advisory Committee summon.
Notably, as per the Sports Law of the Island, Sports Minister Appoints Appeal Advisory Committee and controls it. Interestingly, present Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe is at loggerheads with Maitland Place bosses since long time!
