England batter ollie Pope has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s.
Pope had sustained the injury while fielding on day one and the injury worsened after he was forced to field despite the injury on Day 3 because it was not an “external blow” to be allowed to bat in the second innings. Pope was initially named as part of the 15-man squad for Thursday’s crucial third Test, which England must win to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but it is unclear whether he will be passed fit.
The England vice-captain had scored 90 runs in the four innings and England coach Brendon McCullum had said that they would be monitoring the progress of the batter.
However, England have now announced that their vice-captain wouldn’t be taking any further part in the series after his injury as he would require surgery. The announcement also said that England will not be calling up a replacement for Pope for the third match at Headingley.

“Scans in London on Monday revealed the full extent of the injury and he will miss the rest of the summer campaign and will require surgery.”
