Steve Smith is aiming to secure an Ashes series win in England on the occasion of his 100th Test in Headingley as Australia hold a 2-0 lead in the ongoing series.
Smith was the star of the show at Lord’s as he scored 110 in the first innings, which was his 32nd century in his Test career, which began in 2010 at the same venue against Pakistan. The 34-year-old was adjudged the Player Of The Match for his knock, which was also incidentally his 12th Ashes hundred as well.
Since his debut for Australia, the star batter has achieved a lot of accolades in the longest format of the game but an Ashes win in England has slipped away from him. In 2019, the Aussies came close before the series ended 2-2, with Smith scoring 774 runs in seven innings.
This time, Australia is just one win away from winning the series and Smith is eager to tick an Ashes win in England off his bucket list at Headingley. The 34-year-old, as quoted by Cricinfo, said that it would be special for sure for him to get the win in his 100th Test.
“I have said it for a long time, it is something that has been on my bucket list to win an Ashes series in England,” Smith said. “What a way to top it off, if I could do it in my 100th game, it would be special for sure.”
Smith has said that he will take it game by game and is just enjoying it out in the middle. The 34-year-old said that he is also looking to improve and contribute to the team.
“I will take it game by game. Just enjoy myself out in the middle,” Smith said. “And while I am enjoying myself and feel like I can improve and contribute to the team, and feel good about helping the team, then I will keep playing.”
