Former India batter Aakash Chopra said that Virat Kohli is no longer part of the ‘Fab Four’, insisting that it’s ‘Fab Three’ now. Kohli is part of the Indian squad set to take on West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series on July 12.
Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said we don’t have a ‘Fab Four’ now, insisting that it’s just ‘Fab Three’ now. Kohli scored 14 and 49 runs as India lost the World Test Championship Final against Australia last month.
“Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson were a sure shot ‘Fab Four’ at one point. In fact, even David Warner’s name was present in that list. We are talking about Test cricket. We are talking about the period between 2014 and 2019. But we don’t have a ‘Fab Four’ now, only a ‘Fab Three’,” said Chopra.
Chopra said Kohli’s numbers have plummeted in Tests, with the former India skipper scoring only one Test century this year. Kohli scored 186 runs off 364 balls against Australia in Ahmedabad to register his only hundred of this year.
“Virat Kohli’s numbers have plummeted. He has played 25 matches – 1277 runs, which does not suit him. He has an average of 29.69 and he has scored just one century overall, which came against Australia on the Ahmedabad ground,” Chopra added.
He went on to say that Kohli is not part of the ‘Fab Four’ anymore, adding that David Warner, who was breaking into the ‘Fab Four’ conversation is also not part of that set of players anymore.
“David Warner – 23 matches, 1250 runs, an average of 32.89. He has two centuries in that, including a big one. I feel at this point in time, as things stand now, Warner and Kohli are not part of the ‘Fab Four’,” said Chopra.
India is set to face the West Indies in two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is, starting July 12.
