Wasim Jaffer has tipped Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill to take Indian cricket forward once the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decide to retire.
Jaiswal and Gill have had a good 2023 as they first made their mark in the IPL 2023 campaign. Gill scored hundreds in all formats of the game this year and was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2023.
Jaiswal made a big splash on his debut for the Indian team in the first Test against West Indies, scoring 171 runs and in the process becoming the first Indian batter to score 150 on his debut in the overseas
Jaiswal followed this up with a fifty in the first innings of the second Test as well.
Speaking to JioCinema, as quoted by Sportskeeda, Jaffer said that he sees Jaiswal as a three-format player for India. The former opener tipped the young duo to be serious contenders to take Indian cricket forward.
“One is Yashasvi Jaiswal. I see him as a three-format player. He has performed amazingly well in the IPL and has made an excellent start in Test cricket.”
“Shubman Gill is the second name I will take. If we talk only about batting, I see these two players as very strong contenders who will take Indian cricket forward after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli,” said Jaffer.
Jaffer also tipped Sai Sudharasan to become a very good player for India in the future following his stellar run in the IPL and century against Pakistan in the Emerging Asia Cup tournament.
“Sai Sudharsan is a player who I have liked a lot, the way he has played in the IPL. After that, he has scored a century against Pakistan A in the emerging teams’ tournament that is going on. So I feel he can become a very good player in the future.”
