Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has stated that England’s “Bazball” approach is best suited for flat pitches and not a mandatory tactic for every Test match. Ishan, who recently scored an unbeaten 52 runs off just 34 balls in the recently concluded second Test against West Indies, explained that the aggressive batting style associated with Bazball is not always suitable for every match or pitch condition.
“It is not possible that you can play that fast every day, it depends upon the situation also,” he told the reporters after Day five of the second Test match was washed out.
“If the wicket is flat, where you can score quickly, and the need of the team is to get runs quickly, then I think you can take on that action. I don’t think it is necessary that we must play in an aggressive manner in every match, but whenever there will be a need of playing attacking cricket, we have got enough firepower in our ranks. I don’t think you can always play attacking shots in Test cricket. ” he added.
The young cricketer also highlighted his personal experience during the second Test against West Indies. Sent to bat up the order, Kishan decided to take on the left-arm spinner with positive intent, aiming to capitalize on the opportunity given to him. His successful performance in the match underscores the importance of adaptability and strategic decision-making in cricket.
