England batter Harry Brook said that the hosts would be looking for a moral win during the Oval Test against Australia after relinquishing chance to win the Ashes after the draw in Manchester.
England were on top of proceedings during the fourth Test and did have the Aussies on the ropes heading into the last two days of the match. However, persistent rain caused the match to end in a draw and allowed Australia to retain the series 2-1.
The 25-year-old said that the hosts would be looking to claim a moral victory. Brook said that England were feeling confident in Manchester that they could make the series 2-2, heading into the final game.
“We were dominating the game last week weren’t we? So if the game had played out, I would like to think we would have won that,” Brook said.
“So if we can win this week, it almost can make it a moral victory.”
“It’s a shame the weather ruined it for us because we’d have felt very confident going into this game at 2-2.”
Brook said that it would be lovely to deny Australia from ending their Ashes series drought i n England with a win at the Oval.
“We haven’t lost yet,” Brook noted.
“They’ve only retained it. So, if we win this week, it’s a draw isn’t it?
“That would be lovely (to deny Australia a drought-breaking series win). It’s not nice drawing is it, but it would be lovely to not give them that privilege.”
