Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has said that Suryakumar Yadav came out with a lot more intent against the West Indies in the third T20I of the five-match series. Suryakumar scored his 14th T20I half-century to guide India to a seven-wicket win at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said Suryakumar came out with a lot more intent in the third T20I, especially against the left-arm spinners. Suryakumar scored 83 runs off 44 balls to guide India to a much-needed win in Guyana.
“To be honest, he looked quite rusty, throughout the ODIs and in the first two T20Is as well. Today was a different Suryakumar Yadav. That can happen with Suryakumar Yadav. He came out with a lot more intent, especially against the left-arm spinner. That’s been his downfall a few times – getting out to left-arm spinners,” said Jaffer.
He went on to say that Suryakumar is a nightmare for bowlers when he is playing the way he did in Guyana.Suryakumar formed am 87-run partnership with Tilak Varma while chasing the 160-run target.
“He’s that kind of a batter. He likes to take risks and when it comes off, you get to see an innings like that. Absolute delight. When he is playing like that, he is a nightmare for bowlers and the [opposition] captain,” Jaffer added.
