India captain Rohit Sharma has said India are going to have several players out of the final ODI match of the Australia series. Speaking ahead of the final match of the bilateral series, captain Sharma said that India have just 13 players to choose from in the final ODI match of the series.
Sharma and Virat Kohli are returning after a brief 2-match break and are expected to be slotted into the side straight away.
“Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami aren’t playing. Axar Patel is unavailable for this game. We have got 13 players to choose from, so there’s a lot of uncertainty in the team,” Sharma said in the press conference ahead of the 3rd ODI match.
India are shaping well ahead of the World Cup and have dominated their last few matches in the Asia Cup 2023 and in the ongoing bilateral ODI series. Sharma said that he was happy with the way India have played their last 10 matches and felt that India are peaking at the right time.
“Very happy with the last ten ODIs we have played. Bowlers picking wickets, batters getting important runs,” Sharma said.
Asked about he injuries issues in the side, Sharma said that returning India players have proven their fitness (Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul). Both players have done well in the ongoing series against Australia. Shreyas Iyer won the player of the match in the second ODI with a century, while KL Rahul scored rapid runs after coming into bat in the latter half of the innings.
The Indian captain said that he hoped that any more injuries would not happen in the Indian team in the ODI World Cup 2023. India will start their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai.
