Roshan Mahanama, the cricketing legend turned dedicated social worker, is proud to announce the one-year anniversary of the Roshan Mahanama Trust (RMT) in October 2023. In this short span of time, RMT has transcended the boundaries of cricket to touch the lives of more than 50,000 beneficiaries.
The trust was inaugurated during a modest ceremony on October 4th, 2022, marked by a heartfelt ‘We Promise’ pledge—a commitment to fostering a solid educational foundation, promoting healthy lives, and ensuring a safe environment for underprivileged children in Sri Lanka.
Since its inception, RMT has relentlessly focused on key areas, including pediatric cancer, shelters for abused children, support for children with disabilities, and emergency interventions during the prevailing economic crisis.
The trust operates under the vigilant guidance of an independent board of trustees, who prioritize transparency and accountability in all endeavors. The financial stewardship of RMT is entrusted to Amamarasekera and Company, with Ernst & Young (EY) serving as auditors to maintain utmost financial integrity.
Reflecting on this remarkable journey, Roshan Mahanama stated,
“It has been an exhilarating and transformative year for our trust, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our donors who have shown unwavering confidence in both me and our mission.
I would like to extend a special acknowledgment to our Sri Lankan diaspora living abroad in Dubai, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada, Aruba for orchestrating exceptional fundraisers that have allowed us to continue our vital work for underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. We are equally indebted to our esteemed partners—the Indira Cancer Trust, Ayati Trust,SOS, Roshan Wijerama Family Foundation, Community meal share and the Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians—for placing their trust in us. In the coming year, we aspire to expand our operations, reaching even more beneficiaries and making an enduring difference in their lives.”
As part of the one-year anniversary celebrations, RMT has organized a series of events throughout the month of October to assist needy children. These events play a pivotal role in the trust’s journey of compassion and transformation.
