SLC’s petition against the Interim Committee terminated by Appeal Court

Written by N Krishnamurthy

In a significant development, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva’s petition against the Interim Committee appointed to Board was terminated by the Appeal Court on Friday. According to experts, there was no validity of the petition once the gazette was revoked.

The decision came as a relief for the Maitland Place after troublesome few months, as former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe desperately tried to topple them. The latest development has also paved the way for Shammi to complete his term.

The decision came after newly appointed Sports Minister Harin Fernando signed the gazette to revoke the decision by Former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe that appointed an interim committee for Sri Lanka Cricket.

The gazette noted that Harin Fernando, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, do hereby revoke and rescind the Extraordinary Gazette bearing reference No. 2356/43 dated 05th November 2023 with immediate effect.

It added that thereby the Interim Committee appointed for the purpose of exercising the powers, functions and duties of Sri Lanka Cricket shall stand dissolved.

Former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe issued a gazette on the 5th of November, suspending the operations of Sri Lanka Cricket, and appointing an Interim Committee chaired by Arjuna Ranatunga to continue the operations of SLC.

However, the suspension imposed by the ICC on SLC remains in effect.
