Sunil Gavaksar feels that Chennai Super Kings will be part of the bidding for Rachin Ravindra but won’t be desperate to get the New Zealand all-rounder.
Rachin made a spectacular entrance onto the world stage during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. With his roots tracing back to India, he became the youngest Kiwi batter to score a century on debut, amassing an unbeaten 123 against England.
His exceptional performance continued throughout the tournament, where he not only scored three centuries in total, with two coming against Australia and Pakistan respectively, but also set a record for the most runs by a debutant in a single World Cup edition. Rachin ended the tournament with 578 runs.
Following his World Cup heroics, Ravindra’s cricketing journey took an exciting turn as he enrolled himself in the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of Rs 50 lakhs. Given his prowess as a left-arm finger spinner and a reliable opener, he is expected to spark a bidding war amongst franchises.
Many have been tipping CSK to be one of the teams to be in the mix for Rachin, but Gavaskar first said that they might not go for the young star. Speaking to Star Sports, the Indian legend said that the reigning IPL Champions do have options in their ranks in the form of Moeen Ali and Mitchell Santner.
Gavaskar went on to say that while CSK will be in the bidding process for Rachin, they won’t be desperate for the services of the all-rounder during the auction.
“I don’t think they will go for him because they have options. As you said, they have Moeen Ali who can play at No. 3. They also have Mitchell Santner as a bowler. They will come in the bidding but they won’t be desperate for Rachin Ravindra.”
