India head coach Rahul Dravid called pacer Prasidh Krishna a promising prospect following his Test debut against South Africa at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion on Boxing Day.
The 27-year-old was handed his Test debut in India’s first Test of their two-match series against South Africa. India will be aiming to win their first-ever Test series in South Africa, having failed on eight occasions in the past.
Speaking after handing Prasidh his debut, Dravid called him a promising talent, while insisting that everyone will have to be realistic with their expectations. Prasidh has picked 54 wickets in 12 first-class matches, while claiming 29 and 8 wickets in 17 ODIs and 5 T20Is respectively.
“Prasidh is a promising prospect, but we have to be realistic that this is his first Test match. He has not had a lot of first-class cricket to fall back on because of a number of reasons. But I am hoping he has a good game and enjoys himself. It is such a lovely moment when we give out a new cap to someone,” said Dravid.
He went on to say that there’s a stroke of luck involved while playing in South Africa as there are a lot of plays and misses. India has won only four Test matches on South African soil since their first Test against the Proteas in 1992.
“You need a little bit of luck as well in these conditions, there are lot of plays and misses, you want to be the one playing and missing, and hopefully, the opposition edging those same ones. I think there is a little bit of luck involved,” Dravid added.
