India pacer Mukesh Kumar has spoken about his on-field partnership with India’s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The fast bowling duo were in great touch in the recently concluded series against South Africa. The duo, along with Mohammed Siraj helped India win their second Test match in Cape Town, helping the team to eke out a draw after their loss in the first Test match. In the first innings of the second Test, Mukesh bowled a spell of 2.2-2-0-2, bundling South Africa out for just 55 runs. Mukesh finished that game with four wickets to his name.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Mukesh opened up on his relationship with the India fast bowler and said that Bumrah keeps advising him throughout the game. Mukesh said that Bumrah’s tips in the field are invaluable and help him grow as a pacer.
“Bumrah bhai keeps advising me on the yorker in particular. You bowl the yorker well. Just keep doing what you have been. We talk quite regularly and he gives me other suggestions as well, which are obviously invaluable,” Mukesh Kumar said in an interaction with Telegraph India.
The latest India speedster spoke about the similarities in tactics between Bengal and the Indian team and said that he is trying to replicate the way him, Akash Deep and Ishan Porel hunted wickets in the domestic circuit.
“The process is quite similar to what myself, Akash (Deep) and Ishan Porel used to do in Bengal. Here also we discuss our respective roles: who will go on all-out attack and who focuses on keeping things tight with maiden overs. In Cape Town, Bumrah bhai was telling me to keep bowling those dot balls as that would add to their (Proteas) pressure (in the second innings). Such was the situation that I had to bowl those, which eventually proved to be beneficial for the team,” Mukesh said.
