Deep Dasgupta feels that the England bowlers’ inexperience came to the fore on day two of the first Test against India in Hyderabad on January 26, Friday.
India continued to pile on the misery on the visitors as England’s bowling performance was a mixed bag.
Tom Hartley showed improvement from the first day, as he got the wicket of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. Jack Leach wasn’t used to the full potential as Jeetan Patel, England bowling coach, revealed that the spinner was suffering from a knock.
“Leach would have bowled more overs but he bumped his knee. We have to be careful with how we manage him,” said Patel to Sky Sports.
Dasgupta, while talking to the BCC, commented on the bowling performance from England on the day and felt they started well. However, the former cricketer feels that it’s going to be difficult for the visitors to bounce back as India have got a lead of 150 plus and the ball is keeping low.
Dasgupta felt that the England bowlers were one-dimensional on day two and the team management would need to think about their team composition going forward.
“England started well, getting that wicket in the first over, but now India are in a very, very good position. A lead of 150 plus on this pitch which is now starting to keep low, it’s going to be very difficult for England to get back into it.”
“Both India batters are settled, so this lead could extend further still. The inexperience of England’s bowlers came to the fore, and they were quite one-dimensional.”
“The composition of their bowling line-up is something they are going to have to think about for the rest of the series,” said Dasgupta.
