Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that injuries have been the biggest problem for KL Rahul in his international career thus far as the star batter is set to miss the second Test against England. Rahul, who scored a fine half-century in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test, has been ruled out of the Vizag clash after he complained of right quadriceps pain.
Rahul has been in and out of the Indian team in recent times due to injury concerns. He missed a major chunk of cricket last year after sustaining a thigh injury during the Indian Premier League. However, he made an excellent comeback with crucial knocks for the team in the Asia Cup, the ODI World Cup and in Test series against South Africa.
Chopra pointed out that when everything looks fine with Rahul regarding his form some injuries or illnesses make things worse for him.
“This has been the biggest problem in KL Rahul’s career. Injuries or illnesses have come at the wrong time and they have come many a time. When you feel everything is gone fine – injury, dengue or COVID – something or the other goes wrong with him. I feel Rahu is sitting in his kundali,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube video about KL Rahul.
Rahul played an impressive knock of 86 runs in the first innings against England in Hyderabad, but he failed to replicate the same in the second innings as India lost the match.
Chopra lauded Rahul’s ability to play the sweep shot which many Indian batters are not very comfortable playing.
“The way he played in the first innings, and to be fair, he was batting assuredly in the second innings as well. There are very few people in our team who play the sweep. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul play the sweep, and KL Rahul will now not be there in this game,” Chopra added.
