Rajkot Test: Ben Duckett hits fastest hundred by an England batter against India

Opener Ben Duckett took the attack to Indian bowlers in the final session of Day 1 during the third Test between India and England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The left-handed opener, known for his aggressive style, blazed his way to a century off just 88 balls, marking the fastest-ever hundred by an England batter against India in Test cricket.

Duckett’s innings was a masterclass in what has been colloquially termed “Bazball,” a reference to the attacking approach advocated by England’s coach Brendon McCullum. His rapid start saw him sweep spinners to the boundary with audacious ease, as he raced to 102 not out from 88 balls, including 19 fours and one six. This remarkable feat came after he had already made headlines for leaving only 8 out of 605 deliveries as a Test match opener, showcasing his preference to play shots rather than leave the ball.

His fearless batting not only entertained the fans but also shifted the momentum in England’s favor as they sought to chase down India’s first innings total. On a day when Ravichandran Ashwin claimed his 500th Test wicket, it was Duckett’s explosive batting that stole the limelight and provided England with a glimmer of hope in their quest to level the series, which stood at 1-1.
