India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has risen 2 places in Test batters’ rankings to enter the top 10 for the first time. Jaiswal’s rise comes on the back of his sensational performance in the Test series against England.
Jaiswal has been in scintillating form in the series so far and has scored 655 runs in four Test matches. Jaiswal has already matched Virat Kohli’s run-tally in a Test series against England and is poised to break the legendary batter’s record in the Dharamsala Test match.
Jaiswal has been on a dream run in the ongoing series against England and started off with an aggressive 80 runs in Hyderabad. The opener’s 209 laid the foundation for India’s win in Vizag and he followed it up with another double hundred in Rajkot to allow the hosts to take the lead in the series.
This meant that Jaiswal became the third Indian batter after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli to score back-to-back double hundreds in Test cricket.
The batter was ranked in the 29th spot in the Test rankings ahead of the Rajkot Test match. After his match-winning double hundred, Jaiswal made the biggest jump in recent times and was placed at rank 15. After the conclusion of the third Test, Jaiswal’s position rose three spots further and he was ranked in the 12th spot.
The batter did not score a hundred in the fourth Test match in Ranchi but added valuable contributions of 73 and 37 in the Test match. There have not been any Tests in the series so far, where Jaiswal has not scored at least one fifty.
Jaiswal was given yet another promotion – this time – of two spots, which helped him enter the top 10 ranking for the first time in the Test format. The youngster is now the second Indian to enter the top 10 of the Test batters’ rankings. He joined Virat Kohli, who has maintained his position at the 8th rank.
