Moeen Ali feels that Chennai Super Kings under the captaincy of MS Dhoni always have a chance of winning even if they aren’t that strong on paper.
Moeen is gearing up for his fourth season with CSK, where he has won the IPL twice under the captaincy of Dhoni. The legendary wicket-keeper batter has been at the helm every time the Chennai-based franchise has won the title.
While many feels this could be the final season for Dhoni, the CSK skipper is firmly focused on winning his 6th IPL crown. Moeen, while talking to ESPN Cricinfo, praised Dhoni’s captaincy.
The England all-rounder hailed Dhoni as a special player and captain and said his strategic persona is really good. Moeen said that it is exciting for a player under Dhoni, especially when it comes to the role the CSK skipper has designed for them.
“Everyone knows that Dhoni is a special player and a special captain. He is a very good guy. I have played three seasons but I don’t know what he is going to come up with. His strategic persona is really good. It is exciting as a player – what role he has for you. When you are playing for CSK with Dhoni as the captain, whether the team is weak or strong on paper, you always have a chance of winning,” said Moeen.
Dhoni joined the CSK camp ahead of the season and was at Chepauk on March 7, getting into the nets. The five-time champions will be facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai in the season opener on March 22 and will be playing four matches in total during the initial phase of the competition.
CSK will also face Gujarat Titans (March 26) in Chennai and two away matches in Vizag and Hyderabad against Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively.
