Following three back-to-back losses for the Mumbai Indians, there are calls for removing Hardik Pandya as the captain and reappointing Rohit Sharma as the leader of the side ahead of the game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. Amid the MI captaincy row, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has given his two cents on the issue. As per Sehwag, why would you remove someone as captain who has led the side to multiple titles unless he is retiring. Calling it a wrong move, Sehwag reckons no franchise would have let go of Rohit, the captain.
“Dhoni Chennai ke liye khelne gaye they toh teen saal baad shayad jeete they. Ek captaan jab aapko jeetata hai, toh phir aap usko kaise ignore kar sakte ho? Kaun franchise chodta hai? Woh Mumbai Indians hi ho sakti hai joh 5 khitaab jitne wale captaan ko keh sakti hai ki bhai ab hum aapke captaani ke saath nahi jayenge,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
Recently, Rohit and Hardik were recently seen hanging out with each other and the other Mumbai Indians players during their trip to Jamnagar. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the next few days. Mumbai lock horns with Delhi on Sunday at the Wankhede and they would be desperate to open their account.
Rohit’s form with the bat has not been up to expectations. He registered a duck in the game against Rajasthan Royals. He would look to get some runs under his belt with the T20 World Cup coming up, it would help his confidence as he is set to lead the side in the marquee event.
