Australia’s Pat Cummins claimed the first hat-trick of the T20 World Cup 2024 and the seventh overall during his team’s Group 1 Super 8 match against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua on Thursday, helping Australia restrict Bangladesh to 140/8.

After winning the toss, Australia opted to bowl first and were ahead of the game with regular strikes. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (40) and Towhid Hridoy (40) made substantial contributions for Bangladesh before Cummins ran in the death overs. In the penultimate delivery of the 18th over, Mahmudullah chopped one from Cummins onto his stumps and off the final delivery of the over, MAhedi Hasan found the fielder at third man.

Cummins got rid of the well-set Hridoy off the first delivery of his next over, the 20th of the innings, to become the second Australian bowler to claim a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup. Brett Lee was the first when he claimed the hat-trick against the same opposition in the 2007 edition.
