Shubman Gill has been appointed the Indian captain for the tour of Zimbabwe post the T20 World Cup 2024 as the BCCI announced the squad on Monday evening. The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Dhruv Jurel, all-rounder Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande have received maiden T20I call-ups while left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has returned after five years.

India’s squad for the tour of Zimbabwe:

Ꮪhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande.

Senior players competing in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the Americas, including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested ahead of a gruelling season.

The Zimbabwe tour comprises five T20 Internationals, beginning July 6.

Notably, all four travelling reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024 have been named for the Zimbabwe tour. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson are the ones from the squad of 15 who are yet to play a game in the ongoing tournament

Gill and Avesh were released after the team finished their group-stage matches as they were unlikely to feature in any of the remaining games. As far as the newcomers are concerned, Abhishek and Parag dominated IPL 2024 with their brilliant batting.
