Charles Silva has been elected president of Galle Cricket Club (GCC) uncontested for the second term, Cricket Age reliably learns. The election results will be formally announced during the GCC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) today (June 29), with all the posts decided uncontested.
According to sources, Former club president Kumar Samarasinghe led fraction decided not to contest the election, which paved the way for Charles Silva for second term.
In his new committee, Thushara De Silva is elected as Vice President, while Ruwan Gallapthi as secretary.
During Charles Silva’s first tenure, a gymnasium and practice wickets were built, while a new ground and a solar power project is in the pipeline, with the support of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Shammi Silva, Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliyada and National Development Centre (NDC) head Kamal Dharmasiri.
Founded in 1876, Galle CC has produced legendary players like Romesh Kaluwithrana, Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekera.
