Legendary India captain MS Dhoni congratulated India for winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Notably, India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final on Saturday, June 28 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. The Men in Blue posted a good score of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, South Africa could only score 169/8 in their 20 overs as India won their second T20 World Cup Trophy.
Following their win, entire nation congratulated the Men in Blue for their historic triumph. MS Dhoni also posted a special congratulatory post for team India saying that his heart rate was up throughout the game but hailed the team for maintaining their calm under pressure.
“My heart rate was up,well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did.From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home.CONGRATULATIONS,” posted Dhoni on his Instagram account.
Notably, India were put to Test by South Africa in the final as they needed just 30 runs to win off the last 30 balls after Heinrich Klaasen smashed Axar Patel for 24 runs in the 15th over. However, Jasprit Bumrah returned in the attack and gave away just four runs in his third over. Hardik Pandya later helped India come back in the game by dismissing the dangerous Klaasen who scored 52 off 27.
South Africa still required 22 runs from the last three overs which was brought down to 20 needed from last two courtesy of a two-run over by Bumrah which included the prized scalp of Marco Jansen. Arshdeep Singh also bowled a brilliant second last over giving away just four runs.
In the last over, Pandya rose to the occasion and got the key wicket of David Miller on the first ball courtesy of a brilliant catch from Suryakumar Yadav. Following that, there was no stopping India as Pandya held his nerve successfully defending 15 runs in the last five balls.
