Written by Vishwas Gupta

The young Indian team has jetted off for Zimbabwe on July 2, Tuesday as they face Sikandar Raza and his men in a 5-match series, starting from July 6. This will be the first assignment for India since they became the T20 World Cup champions by beating South Africa on July 29. With most of the senior players being given a much-needed rest, Shubman Gill would be leading the young side, which will have a lot of new faces.

The BCCI shared a set of pictures showing the squad departing for Zimbabwe. The coach for the assignment, VVS Laxman was pictured alongside the likes of Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag in the post shared by the BCCI. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube and Khaleel Ahmed, who are currently in Barbados with the T20 World Cup-winning India squad, could be expected to join the squad directly after they leave Barbados.

Gill was absent from the images shared on Instagram by BCCI. The young star was part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup squad, but was allowed to leave the camp early. He was seen spending some time off and was spotted during the Copa America tournament in the US. He could be expected to join the squad directly from there.
