The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the schedule for the Indian Cricket Team’s tour of Sri Lanka. The upcoming away series is set to be the first for India’s newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir who will be looking to make a mark right away.
Gambhir will begin his head coaching tenure in Sri Lanka and it is yet to be seen who he will appoint as the captain of India’s T20I side. With the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli, Gambhir will have to bring in young talents who can take Indian cricket forward.
India’s squad for the upcoming tour is yet to be announced but reports have suggested that the senior duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are likely to be rested and it is possible that Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul could take up the role as captain.
Following Gambhir’s appointment, the hiring of the coaching staff is also yet to be confirmed with a fair bunch of contenders being touted for the respective roles within the Indian set-up.
India’s away series will begin with the T20I games which will be taking place at the Pallekele International Stadium. It will be followed by a trip to Colombo where the two sides will meet again for another three-match ODI series which will take place at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.
