India youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal played a stunning innings of 93* against Zimbabwe on Saturday, 13 July. Jaiswal won the player of the match award in the game which helped India take an unassailable lead in the series. After the match, a pumped-up Jaiswal said that it was only the beginning for him and that he learnt a lot from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the Indian team.

Speaking at the press conference, Jaiswal said that him starting out as a Test player in the Indian team has really helped tone down his emotions during a match, which comes handy in high-intensity T20I games.

Speaking about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s legacy with the Indian team, Jaiswal said that he was lucky to share the dressing room with them. Both Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement from T20I cricket right after winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados.

“When I talk to Rohit bhai or Virat bhai, I get a lot of experience from them,” Jaiswal said.

The player revealed that he was inching back to return to the field and flew out to Zimbabwe as soon as possible.

“I wanted to join the team as soon as possible. To play with the team, contribute and win games,” Jaiswal said.

Asked about his start in the Indian team, Jaiswal said that he was really young and had a long way to go.

“From last year, a lot of things have happened in my life. It is an experience, I am enjoying it. Of course, sometimes it is hard to accept what is in front of you and how you are going to come out of that, but this is just life. I try to take it one day at a time and I try to enjoy the moment,” Jaiswal said after the 4th T20I match against Zimbabwe.

“What Rohit and Virat have done for Indian cricket is incredible and it is a blessing to be a part of the same dressing room. We are trying match by match, one day at a time. I am trying my best every single time I go out. I am focusing on my process, I am very young, I have just started my career, there is a long way to go,” Jaiswal concluded.

This was Jaiswal’s second innings in the Zimbabwe T20I series. He had scored a brisk 36 in the 3rd T20I match on 10 July.
