Kandy Costoms Cricket Club functioning under scanner

Functioning of Sri Lanka’s domestic Cricket club Kandy Customs Is under scanner and raises many questions, Cricket Age reliably learns.

Sudath de Silva, former Customs department officer, is the president of the club, while treasurer is Duminda Weerakody.

“He (Sudath De Silva) is the one man show at the club. At last AGM he was appointed President, after serving as secretary for years” a club Insider told Cricket Age.

According to Insiders, some players, coaches have been paid through a private account number, Instead of club account number. The accusations are also that the club never had it’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and electing of the office bearers as per the guidelines. Club’s spending and auditing has also been questioned.

Kandy Costoms plays in division A in Sri Lanka’s domestic Cricket. However, it’s not a member club of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

According to SLC sources, during Chulananda Perera’s tenure as Cricket Board’s competent authority, Kandy Costoms was promoted in Division A. Even then, it’s eligible only for players, officials match fee from the SLC, not for other grants, due to it’s not being a member club.

Notably, Kandy Costoms secretary Sudath Silva had moved to court against SLC and brought a stay order few years back.
