India captain Rohit Sharma has shut down retirement talk on Sunday, July 14 as he said everyone would see him playing for a while. Rohit masterminded India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the West Indies and the USA in June this year and was the second highest run-getter in the tournament.
Following the win, Rohit would announce his retirement from the T20I format for India, as he felt it was the right time to sign off on a high. On Sunday, during an event in Dallas, Rohit was once again asked about retirement from the game. The India captain said he isn’t someone who thinks a lot ahead but he still has a lot of left in his tank.
“I just said it. I don’t do that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while,” said Rohit at the event.
A few months ago, he had stated he is planning to continue playing for a few more years and want to win the WTC and the World Cup with India.
“I haven’t really thought about retirement. But, I don’t know where life takes you. I am still playing well at this point in time – so I am thinking I am going to continue for a few more years and then, I don’t know. I really want to win the World Cup and there is a WTC final in 2025, hopefully India makes it,” said Rohit.
Rohit will now turn his attention to ODIs and Tests with big assignments coming up in the next few months. The India captain maybe rested for the Sri Lanka tour.
