Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill backed me: Ravi Bishnoi

Written by Vishwas Gupta

India’s spin bowler Ravi Bishnoi praised Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill and revealed that both the captain and vice-captain of the team had backed him. Bishnoi picked up three wickets and conceded 26 runs in his 4-over quota during India’s 2nd T20I against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele Stadium on July 28, Sunday. Bishnoi was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his performance as he shone with the ball on a spin-friendly track. He revealed that Suryakumar has been a great leader and enjoyed bowling under him. Bishnoi also praised Suryakumar’s deputy, Shubman, for how he has been fulfilling his role.

“Suryakumar is doing great captaincy. I have played under him during the Australia series as well. He has been good. Shubman Gill’s captaincy was also great. In Zimbabwe, we also did great as a captain. They always back me and as a bowler you cannot ask for anything more than this when the captain backs you. Suryakumar and Shubman have both backed me,” Bishnoi said in the post-match press conference.

India have already sealed the 3-match T20I series as they took an unassailable lead of 2-0. The new era under Suryakumar-Gambhir started off on a great note as they will aim for a clean sweep.

Bishnoi revealed that he has been sharing a great bond with the newly appointed head coach Gambhir, who was also his mentor at LSG in IPL.

“I am sharing a great bond with Gautam Gambhir as he has been with LSG for two years. He has not asked me to change anything as such. He has told me to do what I am doing currently. His advice was useful to me earlier as well, and now too.”

Bishnoi used the spin-friendly track to his advantage as he gave the Sri Lankan batters a run for their money.

“They play spin really well, but I don’t know what has happened to them. They collapsed between the middle overs, and they were known as a good spin-playing team, but I think something has gone wrong,” Bishnoi said.
