Rohit Sharma closes in on Babar Azam’s No.1 ODI ranking after Sri Lanka series

Rohit Sharma moved one place up to No.2 in the ICC rankings for batters in ODIs. The Indian skipper is also closing in on Babar Azam’s top-ranking and is only 59 points behind the Pakistan captain’s tally of 824. Shubman Gill dropped a place to third, while Virat Kohli is fourth in the rankings.

Rohit had an outstanding series against Sri Lanka, although India lost 0-2. The 37-year-old finished as the top run-scorer after notching 157 runs from three games at an average of 52.33 and a strike-rate of 141.44 with two half-centuries and a top score of 64 to his name.

Kohli did not have the best of outings after he managed only 58 runs from three games. Gill also struggled in challenging conditions on Sri Lankan soil. Avishka Fernando jumped 20 places to No.68 after his spectacular 96-run knock in the third ODI.

Kuldeep Yadav remains India’s top-ranked ODI bowler as he is placed No.4 in the rankings below Keshav Maharaj, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa. In the series against Sri Lanka, the left-arm wrist spinner picked up four wickets from three games at an economy rate of 3.40.

Jasprit Bumrah did not play against Sri Lanka, but held on to his No.8 slot. Speedstwe Mohammed Siraj, on the other hand, dropped five places to No.10. Dunith Wellalage picked up a five-wicket haul in the third ODI that propelled him to No.59 in the rankings.

Wellalage also jumped 15 places to No.54 in the ICC rankings for ODI all-rounders. In the India series, the left-handed batter made 108 runs at a strike-rate of 104.85 with a top score of 67 not out. Axar Patel picked up six wickets in the series and he jumped to No.83.
