The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah took to social media to celebrate star batter and former captain Virat Kohli, who comepletes 16 years in international cricket on Sunday.
Jay Shah posted: “16 years ago today, a 19-year-old Virat Kohli stepped onto the international stage for the first time, marking the beginning of what has become a truly legendary career. Congratulations to the King on completing 16 years in international cricket!”
Star Sports also shared an old clip of Gautam Gambhir from 2019 in which the currenty Indian cricket team head coach recalled Virat’s debut match against Sri Lanka in 2008.
“When he made in his debut in Sri Lanka in the first ODI, he was dismissed quickly but the way he batted in the nets I knew he had the potential to represent India for many years, he was so talented that it was only a matter of time,” Gambhir said.
“Great attitude, good temperament, he knew the way how to fight to win games for your team. In his early days with the Indian team, the way in which how he won matches for India was a big positive,” he added.
