‘Nobody Can Doubt His Quality’: Dinesh Karthik Comes Out In Support Of Babar Azam

Written by Shreyas Vyas

Babar Azam has been out of form these days. The former Pakistan’s all-format captain has struggled to score big runs in Test cricket for quite some time now, and because of that, his place in the side is now being questioned by many fans, former greats, and experts of the game. The 29-year-old right-handed batter hasn’t crossed the 50-run mark in his last 15 Test innings. He got out for a duck in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi last week and then scored 22 runs in the second essay.

In the first inning of the ongoing second Test, he made 31 runs and will come out to bat in the second inning on Monday (September 2). The fans will expect a big knock from him on the fourth day of the Test match, in which Bangladesh has managed to make a super comeback after losing six wickets for just 26 runs at one point.

Amid all the news of Babar being out of form and whether he deserves a place in the Pakistani team, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has come out in his support and said that according to him there is no doubt about Babar’s quality as a batter and he has got outstanding potential.

“Babar Azam as a player, nobody can doubt his quality. He’s got outstanding batting potential, though I feel he’s under a lot of pressure as a skipper. That’s something that they need to rethink about,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s HeyCB with DK show.

The former Indian cricketer also reacted to Pakistan’s shocking defeat by 10 wickets in the first Test played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium last week and said they missed the trick by declaring the first innings.

“Pakistan now in that Test match against Bangladesh; I thought they declared a touch too early in the first inning. In Asia, it’s about batting big and batting long in the first inning,” he said.
