Australia opener Usman Khawaja said Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is a very good bowler who consistently challenges their batting order with his strategic approach to the game. Khawaja highlighted the tactical brilliance that Ashwin brings to the field, acknowledging the off-spinner’s ability to stay one step ahead.

“Ravi is a very good bowler. He is very strategic; he always has a plan. He tries to figure it out and stay ahead of the game, which I respect. I respect his cricketing brain. It’s always cool to play against him, and I look forward to the challenge,” Khawaja told Star Sports.

As the first Test in Perth approaches on November 22, all eyes will be on Ashwin, who holds an impressive record against the Australians. In 22 Test matches and 42 innings against them, Ashwin has picked up a staggering 114 wickets at an economy rate of 2.70. His ability to perform both at home and in Australia has made him one of the most formidable opponents in this contest. Ashwin has taken 39 wickets in 10 Tests in Australia at an economy of 2.93.

This year’s BGT series carries a sense of history and momentum for India. India has emerged victorious in the previous four series, including two historic wins on Australian soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21. India’s dominance has tipped the overall series balance in their favor, with 10 BGT victories compared to Australia’s five. Australia’s last series win against India came back in 2014-15, and their last win on Indian soil dates back to 2004-05.

The upcoming series, stretching from November 22 to January 7, 2025, will feature five Tests played across iconic Australian venues. Following the first Test in Perth, the teams will head to Adelaide Oval for the second Test, scheduled from December 6 to 10, which will be a day-night affair under the lights. The third Test at Brisbane’s Gabba will take place from December 14 to 18, followed by the customary Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30. The series finale will be staged at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.
