‘Whatever You Feel Like Doing, Just Do It’: Jos Buttler’s Advice for Harry Brook Ahead Of ODI Captaincy Debut Against Australia

Written by Toshi Pawar

England are set to play the first match of their ODI series against Australia on Thursday, September 19. England are going to be captained by Harry Brook, who is standing in for injured Jos Buttler. Speaking ahead of the first ODI match, Brook said that he would like to keep things simple for himself and have some fun against their arch-rivals.

England are facing Australia in a 5-match series, which will serve as preparation for their Champions Trophy, set to be hosted in the first quarter of 2025. Brook said that he wanted England to have some fun in the next few matches.

“I’ve only been here for two days, but the way the lads have gone about their business in training just seems so chilled at the minute. We’re all looking forward to going out there and having some fun,” Brook said in the pre-match press conference.

Asked about his batting, Brook said that he would like to watch the ball as closely as possible and keep things simple.

“I’m just going to go out there and watch the ball as closely as possible,” he said. “If you have a few low scores here and there, you start thinking about different things and your technique and whatever. I’m just going to go out there, watch the ball as closely as I can and play on instinct.”

England are currently being coach by Marcus Trescothick, who holds the position on an interim basis. Brendon McCullum has been appointed as the head coach of the side but will not be at the helm in this series. Brook said that the communication with McCullum will happen at some point but at the moment the sole focus was on the ODI series.

“It’s all going to merge into one at some point,” Brook predicted. “We want to go out there and entertain the crowd, take the game on, try to take wickets and put the pressure on their bowlers.”
