Sri Lanka have added Off-spinner Nishan Peiris in their squad for the second test against New Zealand, Cricket Age reliably learns. Peiris replaced fast bowler Vishwa Fernando, who was withdrawn due to an injury concern. Fernando had developed a tightness in his right hamstring while practicing, hence, he has been sent to the High Performance Center for rehabilitation.
Peiris, the 27 year old right-arm -offspinner, was the part of Sri Lanka A team, who recently thrashed South Africa 2-0 in unofficial test series.
Sri Lanka won the first Test match by 63 runs at Galle International Cricket Stadium. Prabath Jayasuriya’s nine-wicket haul helped Sri Lanka to defeat New Zealand in the first of the two Tests to just go 1-0 up in the series.
With this win Sri Lanka. took a big leap in the points table of the World Test Championship. The Sri Lankan team has reached the third position above New Zealand in the points table.
The second test also to be played at Galle, starting from September 26.
