Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has said that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will continue to change its rules as long as MS Dhoni wants to play in the league. Notably, the IPL Governing Council recently announced the player regulations ahead of the auction for the next season of the tournament in 2025.
Among the several rules formed for the next season, the governing council has brought back the uncapped Players rule which makes any India player uncapped if he hasn’t played international cricket in the preceding five years from the year of the next season. The rule will allow CSK to retain their former captain MS Dhoni without taking a huge amount out of their purse.
Reacting on the development, Kaif expressed his excitement on seeing Dhoni in action again and mentioned that the tournament will continue to bend its rule to allow MS Dhoni to play as long as he wants it.
“You will get the chance to see MS Dhoni again. He is fit, batting at a strike rate of 200, keeping well, and that is why I believe the rules will keep changing till he wants to play. If he wants to play in the IPL, he will play. He is such a big player, such a big match-winner, and has been a leader for CSK,” said Kaif on Star Sports.
Further speaking ahead, Kaif hailed the governing council’s decision and said that the aura of Dhoni will make anyone change their rules.
“I believe the rule has been changed rightly. I believe if he is fit and playing well, why not, change the rule and let him play. Everyone knows the rule has been changed for Dhoni sahab, and why not, you will want to change the rule for a player like Dhoni,” the former India batter added.
