Rishabh Pant has made a rapid rise in the ICC Test batting rankings after a stellar performance in the recently concluded three-match Test series vs New Zealand. Pant was the top scorer of the series with 261 runs from three matches at an average of 43.50 and a strike rate of 89.38 with three half centuries.
Following his stellar show, he has jumped five places to be on the sixth spot having 750 ratings to his name. Pant played a magnificent knock of 99 in the first Test in Bengaluru and further scored two half-centuries in the last Test in Mumbai registering scores of 60 and 64.
Apart from him, New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell also made rapid rise as he jumped eight places to be at the seventh place in the rankings. The right-handed batter scored 157 runs from five innings and played a marvellous knock of 82 in the first innings of the Mumbai Test.
Opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped down one place to be at fourth spot as he didn’t have a memorable outing in the last Test scoring 30 and 5 across two innings. On the other hand, star India batter Virat Kohli has experienced significant drop to be out of top 20 after going eight places down and currently occupies the 22nd spot.
Among bowlers, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has risen two places courtesy of a brilliant ten-wicket haul in the third Test. He’s currently at sixth spot in the bowling rankings with 802 ratings to his name. The left-arm spinner picked his 3rd ten-wicket haul in Tests registering figures of 10/120 as he became the fifth highest wicket taker for India in the longest format.
However, Jadeja’s spin partner Ravichandran Ashwin has dropped down one place to be at the fifth spot with 815 ratings. The off-spinner looked far from his best throughout the series as he scalped nine wickets from three matches at an average of 41.22.
New Zealand’s hero in the third Test Ajaz Patel has also seen a significant climbing 12 places to be at the 22nd spot after match winning figures of 11/163. In ODI rankings, Shaheen Afridi has climbed four places to be at the fourth spot along with Adam Zampa after picking two wickets (2/43 in 10 overs) in the first ODI vs Australia.
