Travis Head said that he had to be circumspect at the start of his innings in the Adelaide Test before stepping on the gas. On Day 2 of the second Test, the left-handed batter put Australia in a position of strength, scoring 140 runs off 141 balls with the help of 17 fours and four sixes. It was on the back of his knock that the Aussies are smelling victory in the Day-Night Test.
Head said that he wanted to put pressure on the Indian bowlers before the second new ball as he felt that Indian bowlers would be tough to face later. Head also continued his love affair with the Adelaide Test, having scored the century with his wife Jessica and son Harrison in the stands.
“I was very pleased with the way I started, very pleased with the way I was able to play against Ashwin at the start with the field up. I picked my moments, manoeuvred the field and then sensed where the game is at. It was a great opportunity to put some pressure on them before the new ball and try to maximise,” Head said in the press conference after the day’s play.
“We knew that facing the new ball would be difficult. It’s nice to move through the gears, move through the game situation and play well to get ourselves in a good position,” Head said.
At Stumps on Day 2, India trailed by 29 runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rishabh Pant as their overnight batters.
