Legendary West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts has come up with an advice for struggling Virat Kohli, who’s been out of form in Test cricket for the past five years. Notably, Kohli recently scored his long awaited 30th Test century in the first Test in Perth but failed to continue his form in the second Test in Adelaide scoring 7 and 11 across two innings.
Recently, Andy Roberts also spoke about Kohli’s struggles in the past five years and said that the star batter needs to be focused on the longer version of the game. He also mentioned how the standard of Test cricket has changed over the years and the batters have struggled.
“I don’t know if there will be a revival after the Adelaide defeat, but get your batting right. One of your best batsmen of all-time has been struggling for the last five years,” Roberts told Mid-day referring to Kohli. “He needs to be focused on the longer version of the game. You will get runs and score heavily in Test cricket only when you are fully focused on the longer form. The standard of Test cricket is not the same. The top batsmen look as if they are struggling.”
Since 2020, Kohli has scored 1961 runs from 36 matches (64 innings) at an average of 32.14 with three hundreds and nine fifties to his name. The former India captain has been under pressure heading into the series as he scored just 93 runs in the last series against New Zealand from three matches.
Hence, there’s massive scrutiny on the form of both Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma who’ve found it tough to get going in the ongoing Test season. Meanwhile, following India’s loss in the second Test in Adelaide by ten wickets, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be desperate to bounce back in the third Test at the Gabba, Brisbane and hence will heavily depend on their senior batters to turn things in their favour.
