The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold a Special General Meeting at its headquarters in Mumbai on January 12 to elect its new secretary and the treasurer.
The two positions have been lying vacant ever since Jay Shah moved to the International Cricket Council as its chairman earlier this month and Ashish Shelar joined the Maharashtra government as a cabinet minister.
The BCCI constitution states that from the time an elected office-bearer resigns, the board has 45 days to call for a Special General Meeting and appoint a successor.
To start the process, the BCCI apex council had a meeting on Thursday and it was decided that former chief election commissioner A.K. Jyoti will be the electoral officer to conduct the polls for the two vacant positions.
While the state associations are yet to receive any official intimation regarding the SGM, sources have indicated that formal notices will be sent to the member units in a day or two, following the BCCI constitution which suggests that a minimum notice period of 21 days is required to call an SGM.
