Breaching BCCI Policy Will lead IPL Ban To Salary Cut for star players

Written by Mohan Sharma

The BCCI has reportedly introduced a strict 10-point policy for its centrally contracted players which if not adhered to, no matter the stature of the personal involved, will result in sanctions.

The policy has come into existence upon the suggestion of India head coach Gautam Gambhir during a review meeting with the BCCI called after the team’s poor show in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that saw them failing to qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship final for the first time since its inception.

So what are the punishments that BCCI will dole out should a player be found in the breach of its new diktat?

More importantly, is there a scope when a player can seek exemption? Yes, according to the document of BCCI, such requests must be approved by the chairman of selectors and head coach.

“Any exceptions or deviations must be pre-approved by the Chairman of the Selection Committee and Head Coach. Non-compliance may lead to disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by the BCCI,” reads the warning from BCCI.

Deduction In Retainer Fee

As part of the disciplinary action, player breaking the rule could see reduction in retainer amount/match fees as per the BCCI contract.

IPL Ban

A player might be banned from taking part in “all BCCI conducted tournaments” including the cash-rich Indian Premier League.

“…the BCCI reserves the right to take disciplinary action against a player which may include sanction against the concerned player from participating in all BCCI conducted tournaments including the Indian Premier League deduction from retainer amount/match fees under BCCI Player contract,” reads the document.
