England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Harry Brook as their new vice-captain of the white-ball formats on Monday, January 20. Brook is counted amongst the rising stars of international cricket due to his magnificent exploits across all three formats. He recently became the number one batter in Tests in December 2024 for the first time and has also put up remarkable performances in both ODIs and T20Is.
England didn’t name a vice-captain while announcing their squads for the upcoming India series as Brook was included in both the ODI and the T20I sides. The 25-year-old will join the leadership group of the national side in the upcoming five-match T20I series against India beginning from January 22 in Kolkata.
In 20 ODIs played in his career so far, Brook has scored 719 runs at an average of 39.94 and a strike rate of 106.83 with one hundred and five fifties. In T20Is, he’s played 39 games and scored 707 runs at an average of 30.73 and a strike rate of 146.07 with three half centuries. Brook was also a part of England’s T20 World Cup 2022 triumph in Australia.
Having been awarded the responsibility of vice captaincy, Brook will be once again expected to play a crucial role for the team in the T20I, ODI series against India and the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
