England opener Ben Duckett on Saturday became the first batter in Champions Trophy history to hit a 150 as he went past that milestone in his team’s opening match of the 2025 edition against Australia. He reached the milestone off just 132 balls, helping England go past 300 despite wickets falling from the other end.
The previous best score in the tournament was New Zealand batter Nathan Astle’s 145* against the USA at the Oval in 2004.
Meanwhile, England also became the first-ever team to touch the 350-run mark in the event history. Duckett and Root forged a 158-run stand, helping the Three Lions recover from 43 for 2 in 5.2 overs. Root fell for 68 off 78 balls, but Deckett took his innings deep to etch his name in the record books. Ben Dwarshuis was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with figures of 3 for 66. Australia skipper Steve Smith had won the toss and elected to bowl.
