Nasser Hussain said that Harry Brook would be his choice to replace Jos Buttler as England’s next white-ball captain but admitted that they will need to be careful with the young batter. England faced another disappointing outing at an ICC event as they were dumped out of the Champions Trophy 2025 following their loss to Afghanistan. This would raise questions about Jos Buttler’s position as the skipper of the side.
Buttler admitted that he would need to assess his position as skipper following the exit from the Champions Trophy. Hussain, in his column for the Daily Mail, endorsed Brook to take the role as he felt it was time to move away from Buttler. However, the fomer captain admitted that the choices are a bit limited at the moment.
“Harry Brook would be my choice as England’s next limited-overs captain now it’s clearly time to move on from Jos Buttler.”
“If you’re having to think about being England captain, as Buttler said he would be after Champions Trophy elimination earlier this week, you probably know you’re done.”
“The truth is though that as far as future leaders go, the cupboard is pretty bare and some of that is simply because not enough domestic 50-over cricket is being played,” said Hussain.
